Marine Microalgae

Batch cultures of mono-specific marine micro algae cultures are produced in our lab and tanks, then transferred to our grow out ponds. When they reach peak nutritional quality, they are concentrated by high volume continuous centrifuge to produce a paste with the consistency of peanut butter.

Algae Paste is “instant” and can be used at any time. It contains a food grade preservative to maintain quality and freshness under refrigerated conditions so it can be kept for a year at 0 to 5 C. or two years at -5 C.

Algae Paste can be mixed in any concentration to suit your needs.

Simply measure the required number of millilitres onto a small mesh screen (80µ to 202 µ) and wash gently through with filtered seawater, then add this to your culture tanks. The whole process takes as little as 10 minutes.

Algae Paste is available in three formulations:

Starter Formula

($180.00/Liter)

Starter formula is a mixture of the small naked flagellates: Tahitian isochrysis, Isochrysis galbanaPavlova lutheri, and Nannochloropsis oculata (sizes range from 2 µto 5µ). This combination of species has proven to be a more balanced diet than using a single species. It can be fed in conjunction with your cultured algae, as a supplement to your regular diet, or use it as a “stand-alone” diet. Its small size and digestibility lends itself to a wide range of feeding applications. Cell densities are approximately 25 billion cells per ml. of paste.

Spat Formula

($180.00/Liter)

Spat formula is designed to be used as food for larger animals (bivalves over 200µ). It is a combination of the diatoms: Chaetoceros-BPhaeodactylum tricornutumNannochloropsis oculata. Spat formula can supplement your regularly cultured algae or be used as a “complete diet” for your animals especially if fed in conjunction with Starter formula. Cell densities are approximately 10 billion cells per ml. of paste.

Greenwater Formula

($180.00/Liter)

Green water formula, Nannochloropsis oculata (2µ, is used in the culture of early-stage larval marine fish. Our Greenwater formula is designed to create diffuse light conditions for the first feeding of larval marine fish. Not only does it help to initiate first-feeding, it also promotes schooling activity. It’s great fatty acid profile also means quality food available to rotifers in the tank. Cell densities are approximately 30 billion cells per ml. of paste.

High speed centrifuges are used to concentrate the algae into paste.

The following nutritional analysis was performed on paste that had been in storage for over six months:
